First 2009 Post

  • Jan. 12th, 2009 at 3:37 PM
So it's already 2009. I had a long and nice vacation back in Manila and Hong Kong last December and came back to Singapore on the 6th of January. Then on my second day back at work, the company told me they had to let me go because of the recession and economic crisis or whatever you want to call it. And because of that, I might be able to go back to the Philippines much earlier than planned. So it's a good thing after all. Will have to see how everything goes from here....

Anyway, while I was in Manila, I got to eat the food I was missing the most while staying so long in Singapore. Pasta in Amici, kebab, tsiken inasal and I got to hang out with old friends, which always makes the trip back worth it. I also got to finish Gears of War 2 with Mark on his xbox360.

Our family trip to Hong Kong was also great. The first day there, we went to a bunch of toy shops and I got a patapon keychain thing as my first purchase. Also got a new Lumix DMC-LX3 and PS3. woot! We spent new year's eve at my cousin's hotel room with HDtv playing NBA Live 09. hehe :)

Oh, I forgot to mention that Cebu Pacific stole our bagtags! Damn it!

Steak, Cosplay, and All About Women

  • Dec. 14th, 2008 at 12:15 PM
Yesterday was a pretty interesting day. Went to grab some lunch over at Aston's in Cathay with Nicc. Then we went off to Singapore Expo for this anime cosplay event thing. There were lots of people but majority of the booths setup were selling the same things. Most of them art prints and other related material. There was a Naruto group that had 47 cosplayers but we didn't catch their part on time. By the time we went in, they were almost finished. We grabbed a few dimsum before Bel and I decided to go back to Cathay and go watch a movie. I wanted to watch Nick and Noah's Infinite Playlist but she wasn't that much interested in it so we ended up getting tickets for All About Women thinking that it was The Women. We only realized that it was a different film from what we thought when we reached the 5th floor in the cinema and saw a poster. It turned out to be an entertaining and hilarious chinese film so it's all good.

TV season

  • Oct. 1st, 2008 at 4:35 PM
A lot of the TV series I follow are back with new seasons. I've already watched the latest episodes from Prison Break, Heroes and Grey's Anatomy. The premiere episode of Chuck's 2nd season's just out so I'll be catching that one soon. I've been watching too much TV (although not technically since I watch it on the laptop) lately that there are times that I start to predict some of the lines that some characters were about to say. But all's good and I'm really glad that all of these people behind all the series are coming out with quality episodes that makes you come back for more each week.

Manila recap

  • Sep. 23rd, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Sept 18
Most of the people in the office were on location for a shoot. Went home early and did some laundry. Watched the 90 minute Amazing Race Asia season 3 episode followed by a couple of different shows which was the cause of us sleeping late.

Sept 19
Had only about an hour of sleep then went to the airport for our early morning flight. Special thanks to Tito Krik who fetched me at the airport. Had to do some errands with regards to my credit card but ended up just wasting time due to a bit of complication. We went to the momo house and hung out there for a while before going to tsiken inasal for lunch and to half moon bibingcrepe for dessert. After that, i was on the road for 5 hours because of the heavy traffic. Reached mogwai in CubaoX around past 10pm already. Pablo was already closed by that time. Too bad I wasn't able to check out the frailty exhibit which was one of the things I wanted to do during my short stay in Manila. Since we had a late lunch, I decided to go light for dinner and went for their squash soup that Gabie recommended. Then we all moved to Krik's studio for the light painting photo shoot that lasted until 3am. I went ahead to grab a few hours of sleep in preparation of another early morning wake up for Graphika Manila.

Sept 20
Was at the event location early since Bel had to prepare for her hosting duties. The event was insightful and the speakers were also good presenters. Both international speakers (Simone Legno of tokidoki and Kristophe Vergne of Pixar) were really cool guys and are very willing to share their experiences from when they were just starting out to how they got where they are now. Hanging out with all there creative minds is a real treat.

Sept 21
Had lunch with my family at Greenbelt and went to check out the prices of HD TV's over at Anson's nearby the area. There was one huge ass HD TV worth 2.5 million pesos. But the 30" to 42" ranges from 60-100 plus thousand. I'm saving up to get one in the future. That and a PS3 :) I slept a bit during the afternoon before going off to fresh manila for the tokidoki signing event. There were lots of people lined up outside by the time we got there and Aram and Ella still weren't around so we decided to hang out at the newly re-opened Cow King. Patrick soon followed. I tried their new thai bagoong rice and bel sticked to their sirloin tips from the old menu. After that, we went back to fresh manila and hang out there until the signing was finished. I got Bel a Sandy plushie and Ella gave her a Sandy vinyl toy.

Comics

  • Sep. 16th, 2008 at 11:03 PM
Except the first 6 runaways digests, these are some of the comics I purchased during my stay in Singapore so far. I'll be going back home to Manila in a few days and I'm going to bring home those I've already read so that I can lessen my baggage load a little by the time I decide to end my stay here.

AirCon

  • Sep. 6th, 2008 at 11:36 AM
We finally have a new aircon installed after a week. Last August 17, we had our previous one cleaned up for maintenance and after a few days, it got spoiled and doesn't get cool anymore. So ever since that, we had to just use the fan in this humid Singapore weather. But all's good now :)

Google Chrome

  • Sep. 4th, 2008 at 6:37 PM
The new Google Chrome browser needs a bit of getting used to since it's different than your usual browser. The most prominent being the interface. Your usual menubar on top is gone and you tweak most of the options and settings with the button on the far right corner. The default page is a summary of most visited pages, recent search history and bookmarked pages. There is no bookmark manager present so I have no idea on how go around organizing them. I like how they maximized the use of screen space and the missing status bar appears subtly when you hover on linked items. The installer and application is very small in terms of file size. The browser handles loading time really fast and is super stable even with tons of tabs opened. I just tried opening around 40 tabs and I can quickly switch to any one of them and the application didn't even freeze. My middle click scrolling doesn't seem to work though but I hope they can fix it in future releases. You can read a behind-the-scenes comics done by Scott McCloud if you want to know more about the technology side of things.

Superman!

  • Sep. 4th, 2008 at 10:40 AM
I was so engrossed watching Superman: TAS on my PSP this morning that I almost missed the bus and I actually missed the MRT station I was supposed to alight in so I had to go back one stop the opposite direction. Should pay a bit more attention next time. hehe :)

Wall-E

  • Aug. 31st, 2008 at 6:48 PM
Yesterday, Bel and I went to go watch Wall-E and it was a really good, fun and entertaining movie from start to end (but I still stand by The Dark Knight as my best film of the year). I find it really cool that they've put a few apple references throughout the film, most notably the startup sound when Wall-E gets fully charged. The end credits are also done really well, incorporating different art movement / style for each scenes plus the 8-bit versions. It really shows their dedication and effort to make the best movie out there.

I just completed the first five songs on hard level, although it's all just three stars and one four stars. My left wrist and right shoulder are both aching now. Haha!
